| Antique Tibetan thangka painting depicting the bodhisatva Manjushri the Bodhisatva of Transcendent Wisdom, he is seated on a lotus with his hands raised in front of his heart in the teaching mudra, his two attributes are each suspended on either side of him in their own lotus flower, to his right is the double edged sword of analytic discrimination which cuts through delusions, on his left is the text of the Transcendent Wisdom (Prajnyaparamita) Sutra, emerging from behind his nimbus above his head is the smiling figure of Green Tara, Goddess of Compassion. Painted with guache on cotton cloth, framed in yellow silk (some fraying an minor losses). 18th century or older. Size: 24" high x 19" wide | |||||||||
