| Japanese antique large kanban (shop sign), made of a single large piece of keyaki (elm) wood with dramatic grain, carved and painted with characters in black, white and red, Meiji Period (1868-1912). Translation: top characters are read right to left in the pre war style: "The Great Japan" then last character say "Pure Sake". Large middle characters are the brand name: top character="White", bottom character (possibly)="Heron". Left characters (in white) are the owner's name from top to bottom: last name: "Nakamura", first name (possibly) "Zaishichi", then "Sake Shop".
