Eugène Henri Cauchois was born February 14, 1850 in Rouen and died in Paris, October 11, 1911. He was a student of Cabanel, Duboc, and of Quost. Cauchois specialized in painting still life, flowers and fruit, genre scenes, landscapes, and marine scenes. He participated in and won medals at various exhibitions such as: Saint-Etienne Salon, 1891, Culture de Pavots; Paris Salon, 1893, Après la Pluie; Paris Salon, 1894, Pour l'autel; Dijon Salon, 1897, Gèraniums. He won a third place medal at the Paris Salon in 1898; a bronze medal in 1900; and a second place medal in 1904. In The Flower Painters: An Illustrated Dictionary, Cauchois is described as a prolific painter. At the end of his life, he devoted his time to painting decorative works, such as panels of flowers of all seasons. He worked on large scale compositions highlighting some areas with thick touches of paint. Examples of his work are in the collections of the following galleries and cities: the Louvre (Gallery Roussel), Perpignan, and Rouen.
