Rudolf Arnold (Austrian 1881-1968) Lantern Tower, Rouen: View of the Spire of Rouen Cathedral from Rue Martainville Oil on canvas, signed on tacking edge and located lower left. The cathedral was reconstructed after a devastating fire in 1200 AD. The cast iron spire is 19th Century. In the right foreground is Eglise St-Maclou, built between 1437 and 1517. The rue Martainville retains many 15th to 18th Century houses. At the head of the rue, in front of St-Maclou, is Palace Barthelemy, the center of the Rouen antiques district.
