Three Watercolours by Miriam Mable Hooper British (1872-1953) Signed with initials lower left. Miriam Hooper was a watercolor artist specializing in landscapes and rural scenes. Born in Redhill in 1872, her father was Thomas Rowland Hooper, an architect and surveyor. She studied at the Croydon School of Art, where Charles Shanon was teaching. Her brother Vincent married Tatton Winter's daughter and that Reigate artist became her tutor and a great influence on her style. Miriam Hooper exhibited widely, both in the provinces and in London, including at the Royal Academy, the Arlington Gallery, Cooling & Sons Gallery, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Society of Women Artists.
