Painting Size: 8” x 10” Born in New York, Bertram Bruestle, studied with his father George Bruestle, who was associated with the Old Lyme Art Colony. His early work, like this example, was in the plein air style of his father; later in his career he turned to wildlife painting. After his father died in 1939, Bertram took over his father's house and studio in Lyme and became an active member of the Lyme Art Association. He exhibited extensively including at The Lyme Art Association, the Salmagundi Club in NYC and the Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme, CT. He is listed in Falk’s “Who Was Who in American Art” |
