Girl in a Brown Dress Oil-on-canvas, signed and dated: "(19)37".
Born in 1901, Oppenheim lived a rich and full 91 years. In addition to the living legacy of painters educated by him, he left posterity the gift of his own work.
Oppenheim received his training at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League both in New York City. Much later in life, he returned to the Art Students League as a teacher.
As he established himself professionally, he joined several membership groups for artists. Among those he joined were Allied Artists of America and Hudson Valley Art Association. Both of these groups sponsored exhibitions in which he took part and won prizes for his art.
His work is presently on view in venues from the White House in Washington, DC to West Point Military Academy and the Chrysler Museum of Art.
