Hermann Herzog (German-American, 1832-1932) Mid-Day Rest Oil on canvas, signed.
Painting size: 20” x 26” C/JLP Herzog was born in Breman, Germany and studied at the Düsseldorf Academy with Schirmer, Lessing, Achenbach and Gude. He developed a highly successful career in Germany counting Queen Victoria, Grand Duke Alexander of Russia and other members of royalty as his patrons. Then, at the age of 37, he immigrated to the United States. He exhibited widely at venues from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art to the Paris Salon, Brooklyn Art Association and the National Academy of Design. His work is currently held in the permanent collections of the National Museum of American Art, New York Public Library, and numerous other museum both in the United States and Germany. Herzog is listed in Who Was Who in American Art by Falk, Artists in California: 1786-1940 by Hughes and Allgemeines Lexikon der bildenden Künstler von der Antike bis zu Gegenwart by Thieme/Becker. |
