The Footbridge Henry George Keller (American, 1869-1949) Gouache on paper, signed with monogram.
Sight size: 9.75” x 14.75” Painter and art instructor Henry George Keller spent most of his life and career in Ohio. A native of Cleveland, he received special permission to attend Western Reserve School of Design for Women, then later studied at the Karlsruhe Academy in Germany. Keller was noted for his skill with watercolor, exemplified by this sensitive landscape. He taught the technique at the Cleveland School of Art for 40 years and was considered by his contemporaries to be the found er of the modern watercolor movement in Northeast Ohio. Keller is represented in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He was featured in an article entitled “Watercolor Painters of Northeast Ohio” in the American Art Review (April, 1999) and is listed in Who Was Who in American Art (Falk, 1999). |
