| A LARGE FINE QUALITY PRE-COLUMBIAN MAYA SMILING MONKEY HEAD FRAGMENT COMPLETE WITH MUSEUM QUALITY CUSTOM METAL STAND. This pottery charmer far surpasses many of the somewhat crude and quickly made offerings of the genre. It dates c.a. 100-860AD and will come with a COA. The piece measures 3" in height by 3 1/2" in width and stands a full six inches in height when placed on its display stand. The smiling eyes and slightly extended tongue capture the essence of a "bad boy" monkey up to no good! He is wearing large ear ornaments curled around the upper ear with a tubular piece inserted through the bottom. According to most reputable sources on the Maya the monkey figure often portrays a spirit of humor and playfullness as well as fertility and sensuality. If you've watched monkeys at play this will make perfect sense to you. I really hate to part with him but as all of you "collector addicts" know, you can't keep everything. | ||
