| A TOP QUALITY PRE-COLUMBIAN MOCHE VESSEL. This is one of those unusually fine pieces of Nazca craftsmanship. Unfortunately, it was broken during shipping and has been professionally reassembled from several large shards. This is reflected in the price or it would be a great deal more. The piece has a rounded bowl form curving outwardly and measures 4 1/2” in height and 6” in diameter and dates from c.a. 100-800AD from the Northern Coast of Peru. The polychrome colors include black, buff, claret, cream, white, scarlet, and reddish brown. The vessel is highly fired and thin walled and is adorned with two abstract fantastical creatures as well as a number of trophy heads. There are two elaborate figures encircling the piece. One has feline characteristics with almond shaped eyes and is wearing a winged forehead ornament while the other is much more of an anthropomorphilogical being with rounded eyes and long tendril-like arms extending the full length of the body. This is a highly sophisticated work of art which will appeal to the collector of the best at the best price as well. Price below its value to reduce inventory and make more room. Don't hesitate on this one. | ||
