Like an aged boxer, the squat muscular crab takes a stance of readiness, one claw up prepared to defend against a coming attacker. This little fellow is unusual in that it is made of thick bronze, with each joint pinned in a way that allows for some mobility. Legs splayed the creature is 9 inches (23 cm) wide, standing it is 3-1/2 inches 89 cm) tall. There is a repair to the first joint of the 2nd left leg. It dates from the first part of the 20th century.

A fine antique Bronze incense burner of squat, belted form supported on three legs. The bronze has a yellow tinge to the patina, matching well the dark red of the rosewood lid. The lid is peaked with a silver rope-work finial. The koro is 5 inches (12.5 cm) diameter, 4-1/2 inches (11.5 cm) to the top of the finial. It is in fine condition.

All surfaces of this striking large vessel are etched, pierced or textured in some way. Three scrolling legs support the bulbous center with two large windows viewing scholarly landscapes between scrollwork handles. Above a cartouche contains a twisted dragon set into a terrain of latticework frets. The vase is 12-1/4 inches (31 cm) tall, 11-3/4 inches (27 cm diameter and in fine condition, dating from the Meiji period.

A wide flaring bronze vessel with removable ornate dragon handles dating from the 19th century. It is cast with a deep olive patina; the traditional shape excellent for ikebana flower arrangement. The three dimensional dragons on the sides coil to form ornamental handles, and can be removed for storage. The vase is 10-1/2 inches (27 cm) tall 11 inches (27.5 cm) diameter and in fine condition. There is a dark spot on the side accentuated by the flash, not noticeable ordinarily.

A fully three dimensional dragon supports this large four sided flaring vase dating from the later Edo period (19th century). The dragon is surrounded by a belt of crashing waves. The head is removable for storage. There appears to have been something below the neck, possibly a casting spur (see photos). The vase is 14 inches (36 cm) tall, 12 inches (30 cm) wide at the top and in fine condition.

An antique Japanese Bronze Basket with a fixed handle of wrapped bronze wovewn into the base. Each strip of bronze is slightly curved toward the outside, as if taken from a large tube, which protects anything placed within from the edges. A lot of work for so simple an item, typical of the high quality expected of Japanese art from the Meiji period. It is 10 inches (25.5 cm) across, 8 inches (20 cm) to the top of the handle and in fine condition.

A set of mixed metal birds on an ornate bronze rock base with stumps and bamboo before swirling water signed Kiyoaki. The birds are decorated in a multitude of metals, the bronze rock a deep mottled green with pale water running in front. The diorama is 12 x 10-1/2 x 7-1/2 inches (33 x 26 x 19 cm) and is in fine condition, dating from the first part of the 20th century. Mandarin ducks are symbols of love in Japan as they are traditionally believed to choose one mate for life.
