An incredibly realistic image of a gidaiyu gripping the sides of his book stand as he rises up to let fly a great bellow. Glass eyes and thick colored gofun are reminiscent of the iki-ningyo (living dolls) of the period. The figure is 57 cm (23 inches) tall, and requires a display space 40 x 55 cm (16 x 22 inches). There is some minor damage (chips in the gofun covering), on the tips of his shoulder wings, top of his chonmage topknot, and the left hand has been re-carved, but very well done; ...click for details

The knurled surface of this two level natural wood vase emanates a soft red glow, folds and valleys accented with ages dark color. The outer shape is entirely natural but for one edge carved off the upper portion which is supported by the two arms growing vine-like up and highly polished. A natural pocket in the wood allows for the lower bamboo insert, visible from the side through a dark cave-like opening.
