A charming baluster form vase decorated with a ring of drying fish by Katsuo Seiryudo (1907-1984) in the original signed wooden box. The hirame (flat fish) are unglazed except for an iron like underglaze used to draw the details, and shiny black dots for eyes. The contrast between the unglazed fish and white ceramic is unexpected and pleasing, in that ordinarily it would be opposite. The vase measures roughly 8-1/2 inches (21.5 cm) in diameter and height, and bears the artists cartouche-like ...click for details

An antique Japanese Bronze Basket with removable handle of wrapped bronze enclosed in the original wooden box. Each strip of bronze is slightly curved toward the outside, as if taken from a large tube, which protects anything placed within from the edges. A lot of work for so simple an item typical of the high quality expected of Japanese art. It is 9 inches (23 cm) across the undulating sides and in fine condition.
