WILD Japanese TAMBA CHAWAN TEA BOWL, YOICHI
Thick wrinkled iron-like glaze seems to fold and slide down the sides of this deep Tamba Chawan by Murakami Yoichi (1937-present) enclosed in the dramatically signed high quality original Kiri-wood box and named Fumyo inside the box. The control shown in the piece is phenomenal; multiple applications of extremely thick glaze building up and fired at a temperature just to the point that it begins to slide evenly down two sides, the third side creating a bulbous drip along the kodai (foot) that forms the main point of focus for the bowl. Frothy green Matcha will look spectacular in this slightly inwardly curving deep Chawan. It measures 4-1/2 inches (11cm) in diameter, 3-1/2 inches (7.5 cm) tall.
