| Earthtones mix with dashes of ink in this spacious Nanga scene by acclaimed Nanga artist Mizuta Chikuho (1883-1958) an Osaka artist and student of Chikugai, enclosed in the original signed wooden box dated 1932. The landscape is depicted with watercolors and ink on silk, bordered in patterned royal-blue brocade and features solid ivory rollers. Time seems to stand still for the lone fisherman trailing a line off the stern of his covered boat on a warm autumn day. A spit of land populated by an empty gazebo like shed separates the upper and lower half of the scene. Asdide from a very few scattered spots, the painting and mounting are in excellent condition. The scroll measures 20 by 81-1/2 inches (50.5 x 207 cm) and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box. | ||||||||||
