EDO Japanese METAL ARMOR JINGASA w/ MON-CREST
An original Edo period red lacquered Jingasa helmet of 6 hand forged iron plates forming a tall peak decorated on three points with a family crest in gold. The crest is 3 stars between a cluster of leaves inside a wide circle. Red armor was usually indicative of the Ii clan of Hikone on the Eastern Edge of lake Biwa. It is 13-1/2 inches (34.5 cm) in diameter. The lacquer about the lower edge is almost entirely chipped away, and the original liner is not present. It would make a great addition to a collection of armor, swords or other Samurai paraphernalia.
