Art-Deco Japanese Lacquer Tray by Fujino Choshu
An art deco revival influenced Lacquer panel by Fujino Choshu (b. 1906) enclosed in the original signed Kiri-wood box titled Yuyake (sunset) dating to the 1960s. Cattle graze in silhouette against the last blood red drop of evening sky. Signed in the lower left corner the wooden placard is bordered in a genuine silver band and backed with lacquered cloth. It is 8-1/2 by 11-1/2 inches (21 x 29 cm) and in excellent condition. Choshu, of Nigata city, was a regular at the Dento Kogeiten (National Crafts Exhibition) and Niten (National Art Exhibition) and was awarded at both the 7th and 9th Bunkasai Bijutsu-Ten.
