Antique Japanese Yuzen Furosaki Tea Room Screen
A Chashitsu Screen made from an antique kimono decorated with villages dotted over a watery landscape, blossoming trees and thatch roofs embroidered with gold thread. The kimono is 19th century, made in the famous Kyoto Yuzen style of dying with accented embroidery. The patterning was likely taken from the lower hem of the kimono. The screen is backed with a beautiful combination of antique patterned sarasa and orange patterned brocade with a simple wood frame befitting the humble confines of the tea room; as fine from the front as from the back. Each panel measures 21-1/2 x 34 inches (55 x 86.5 cm). There is an intermittent dark streak near the upper part of the hinge (see photos).
