Massive Japanese Bronze Buddhist Image
A slightly larger than life Japanese Bronze figure of Amiddha Nyorai seated in a gesture of mercy. The figure stares unperturbed past the rankles in the world about, calling to us for a moment of tranquility. Although possibly older, I feel it is likely an immediate post-war replacement for one melted down during the Second World War, likely from a cast of the original. The face is certainly equal to any Edo sculpture, far superior to the mundane works commonly seen today. With base the image is roughly 4 feet (122 cm) tall, 41 inches (104 cm) diameter, the base is 10 inches (25.5 cm) tall. It is part of a Temple which was vacated and sold which we were fortunate to rescue from the wrecking ball.
