Japanese Sencha Tea Pot by Miura Chikusen
Crabs in cobalt, a common scholarly theme, clamber about the crisp white surface of this small teapot by Miura Chikusen enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The tea pot is 3 inches (8 cm) diameter, 1-3/4 inches (4.5 cm) tall and in fine condition. Chikusen I established the name on a grand scale (1853-1915), passing on the business to his son Chikusen II (1882-1920). Chikusen III headed the kiln from 1920 to 1931 when he turned the kiln over to the fourth generation (1911-1976) and changed his name to Chikuken. The kiln is currently headed by the fifth generation.
