| This is a magnificent original museum-quality oil painting by acclaimed California artist Leon D'Usseau, aka "Dusso" (American, 1918-1991); recently recovered from a California estate. Dusso was born in Los Angeles in 1918, the son of a prominent fine arts director for Paramount Pictures. At fifteen years of age Dusso received a scholarship to study at the Chouinard Art Institute where he studied under Merrill Gage and Archipenko. He exhibited frequently in Los Angeles as well as the entire country. He had exhibits at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in 1937, and later at the Dallas Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York) San Francisco Legion of Honor, and The Audubon Society. Source: Gallery information as well as Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940." This work is one of the finest I have seen by the artist and a prime example of Mid-Century Modernist fine art. Measures: 47 3/4 x 18 1/2 inches. In Dusso's original hand-made wood frame, measures: 51 x 21 1/4 inches. Weight: approximately 20 lbs. Medium: oil on masonite board. Signed lower right. Estimated date of creation: circa 1945-1959. In good overall condition with some mild age-associated wear (few nicks/scratches, paint peeling at left-hand side, approximately 3 inches in length). Authenticity is guaranteed. Shipping: Within California shipping is $55. Please inquire for additional shipping options. | ||
