| Vishnu, the central figure, faces forward, with Shiva in half profile on the right and Brahma in half profile on the left in this exceptionally finely done granite sculpture of the Hindu Trinity. With three sides of the carving devoted to the gods in their prescribed relative positions, the back side of the piece depicts Lakshmi, goddess of wealth and happiness. She is carved in relief as a smaller figure recessed within a shell-shaped frame. The smooth granite faces of the figures are rendered more powerful in contrast to the amazingly detailed headdresses and six writhing serpents that surround them. This late 20th century sculpture, a beautiful example of exquisite Indian stone carving, is in perfect condition. Dimensions: height 4 1/2" (12 cm), width 2 3/4" (7 cm), depth 3" (8 cm). | |||||||||||||
