| A lovely speckled glaze of blue, violet and rich brown covers this 19th century utility jar from China's Jiangsu Province. Unlike much of the utility pottery from that time which was glazed in hurried, casual fashion allowing the glaze to run down in uneven drops toward the foot of the vessel, this piece was attended more carefully by the potter who ended the glaze in a precise line a few inches short of the foot. Glazed on the inside in a dull brown, the jar most likely was used for storing some sort liquid that was deemed worthy of a specially glazed container. It is in excellent condition. Dimensions: 10" high, 12" diameter. | ||||||||
