Uzbek Carved Wood Vase
An unusual handcarved vase of hardwood native to Uzbekistan shows the strong relationship in aesthetics between Middle Eastern Persian or Iranian design and designs used by the Uzbek people of Central Asia. This piece is the product of an Uzbek family woodcarving business run by the family matriarch, herself a second generation woodcarver. Although the business mainly produces large ornate furniture for the local market in Uzbekistan, family members take great delight in creating small, carefully carved, exceedingly time-consuming items such as this. The hardwood container holds water so can be put to the sames uses as a ceramic vase. It was made in the mid-1990s and is in excellent condition. Dimensions: height and diameter: 4-1/2" (11 cm).
