| This large framed Korean brush painting of a stand of bamboo is signed and sealed by Korean artist Jea Min. The finely constrained lines in this late 19th century work show the subtlety of the brush in the hands of a master. Ink and slight color on paper, it is matted with plain black silk and set within a traditional wood rounded corner Korean frame. A thin gold holding line separates the painting and mat. Touches of color appear in the red artist's seal on the lower right and in the faint blue/green leaves scattered below the bamboo. An Asian emblem of longevity because it is evergreen and durable, bamboo was a favored subject among Korea's classically trained painters, who produced beautifully spare works such as this one in which every line is infused with sensibility. This piece is in good condition, with signs of age in paper surface damage in a small area at the top and faint blue ghosting that appears in the upper quarter background.
