Japanese Katagami Fabric Stencil. Edo period. Condition: Fine. Measurements: Image 19" x 15.5". Overall: 25 1/2" x 17 1/2". Ise-Katagami are made of handmade mulberry paper which is sealed with persimmon tannin, rendering the paper waterproof, therefore, reusable. During the Edo period, they were reinforced with human hair. These paper stencils are used in the process of dyeing textiles, particularly kimono. Chinese porcelain bottle form vase with relief decoration of bats and peaches. Kangxi style biscuit glazing in sancai(three color) glaze plus over glaze blue. Fine detailing and vibrant enamels. Incised Kangxi reign mark. 19th century. 15" high. Drill hole professionally repaired - most of the mark remains intact.

Large Japanese Kyoto pottery floor vase. Point bottle form with brilliant turquoise crackle glaze. Decorated after firing using cold painted lacquer with gilt highlights depicting an eagle amidst foliage with smaller birds. Hand made. Circa 1910. 37" high. Unmarked. Good condition - chips/rough spots at foot rim, wear to lacquer and gilding.
