Large Italian pottery vase by the Zaccagnini firm in Florence which has been made into a dramatic lamp. This piece is done in a fantastic interpretation of a Chinese Ming era vase with terrific monster tongue handles, geometric relief decoration, and vibrant sancai (three color) gloss glaze with "antique" crackle. Valentin's studio, Les Archanges, was next door to Madoura, where Picasso worked, and contributed to the renaissance of pottery making in Vallauris during the 1950's and 60's. Decorated after firing using cold painted lacquer with gilt highlights depicting an eagle amidst foliage with smaller birds. Hand made. Circa 1910. 37" high. Unmarked.
