This is an antique silver Scottish agate star brooch,circa 1850. How do I describe something rare and beautiful? It is a unique variation of the star motif, sought after by collectors. It is the only one designed like it that I have seen. Each agate has the most subtle choice of color and blends perfectly with all the others. The agates are inlaid , with each alternating section being raised. The central stone is a citrine, perfectly completing this piece of art. The brooch measures 1 1/8 inches across x 1 3/4 inches across. The reverse has all original mounts. There is some wear to the silver on the reverse, commensurate with use. Overall condition is excellent. It is a one of a kind, artistic and beautifully rendered. Scotland, circa 1850. |
