Rare and strikingly beautiful, these Portuguese earrings are circa 1780 . They are designed with three articulating sections. They have fine silver work accented with small rose cut diamonds, set in fine rub over mounts. These diamonds are encrusted in every tendril and turn, of the classical three section design. The large stones are rare precious topaz, that are foil backed and set in fine yellow gold, rub over, crimped collets. The stones have a rich hue, are reflective, and well cut. The stones have a wide table with perimeter facets, typical of the period. These rare topaz stones were available to the Portuguese via Brazil. Also pictured is a brooch that is of the same period and purchased with the earrings. I have decided to offer them separately for sale. They measure 2 inches long with the ear wires X 1 1/8 across. They hang gracefully and move beautifully on the ears as the diamonds add sparkle to every turn. The condition is excellent. Slight wear on the facets only seen with magnification and commensurate with age. The original back to front ear wires have been replaced with long, graceful gold wires. It is a joy to offer something this rare and wonderful for sale.
