Rare Gold Garnet Iberian Earrings 18th century
Dramatic, long and beautiful, these 18k garnet and rock crystal earrings are 18th century. They are classical girandole design with three articulating sections. The mellow foil back garnets are hand cut with large tables and faceted perimeters. Each stone was set by hand in rub over gold collets. The garnets are accented by foil back rock crystals that have been as finely set as the garnets. They add light and a uniqueness to these earrings

The high carat gold has been finely rendered and the sculptured gold has the original rich patina. Notice too, the classical bow motif that has been beautifully incorporated in the design. The reverse is as fine as the front, with bulbous backs to each stone. The original back to front ear wires have been removed, but the jeweler cleverly left the original findings so it could be restored if desired without any damage to the earrings.

The earrings are in excellent condition and measure a sizable 2 1/4 inches long X 1 1/4 inches across. They are light on the ears and are truly magnificent. Spanish or Portuguese, 18th century
