This Victorian Scottish sterling and agate bracelet represents the very reason why this art form is coveted. The oval links alternate decorative, scalloped, engraved links. The total composition is subtle, understated, and classical. The choice of indigenous, mellow colored agates complete this fine composition. The padlock is large, and it too is remarkable. The front has a large bloodstone and the reverse, a bezel set crystal protecting a finely braided lock of hair.. The padlock has beautiful engraving on the front surrounding the bloodstone. The reverse has the initials E.f. on the top of the locket and a date of 1857 below the glass. The padlock is large, and it would be beautiful worn on a Victorian silver collar in lieu of a typical silver locket. Most certainly, it was a bracelet given with much affection well over 150 years ago. It measures 7 1/2 inches long X 3/4 inches wide. The padlock itself measures 1 1/2 inches long X 7/8 inches across. It opens and closes securely. The bracelet is in excellent condition and is remarkable. Truly one of a kind. Scotland, 1857 |
