| This brooch is Scottish, circa 1860. It is wonderful figural interpretation of a bow crafted by a true artisan. Most 19th century Scottish brooches have traditional designs, and few were creatively expressive. Antique Scottish brooches are becoming scarce, but finding a figural brooch such as this is rare indeed. All the agates were cut and shaped like a true ribbon. The photo does not capture the finesse of the lapidary nor the beauty of the choice of agates. Notice the blend of color and the matched striping. The agate stones were cut and then were set on slate. Then a custom silver mount was made by hand. It was a labor intensive process. The pin measures 2 inches across x 1 5/8 down. It is completely original including the C-clasp and tube hinge. It would be beautiful on a sweater, jacket or hat. It is a superb example of 19th century agate jewelry. | ||||||
