This is a La Paglia sterling necklace and bracelet. La Paglia was an accomplished silversmith who was hired by the U.S. division of Georg Jensen. During WWII, it was difficult continuously stocking the store with Danish silver. American silversmiths including La Paglia were then employed. He was greatly influenced by Danish designs and naturalistic motifs, but forged an individualistic style that is easily recognizable. Pieces designed for Jensen USA are signed L.P. In the 1950's he worked for International Silver under his own name and famous jewelry shops such as J.E. Caldwell featured his works. He died suddenly in 1953 following complications from a fall. Today his works are widely collected and his tea sets command over $10,000.
This set is comprised of a necklace designed with alternating smooth and decorative links. The chain motif of the decorative links, lends texture and a sense of antiquity to the design. Every link is solid, and therefore the weight of the necklace and bracelet is substantial. The clasp is marked Georg Jensen Inc. U.S.A and L.P. It measures 17 inches. Each link measures 7/8 inches across x 5/8 down The matching bracelet measures 7 1/2 inches and is designed to be linked to the necklace to lengthen it if desired. It would make the necklace 24.5 inches long. The bracelet is signed on the clasp signed on the clasp as well. The condition is excellent. This is a very lovely, classic design by a well respected silversmith. |
