Antique Amethyst Gold Rare Georgian Necklace
This Georgian amethyst gold riviere is circa 1800. The riviere, or "rivers of light" is a simple, elegant design where stones are set one following the other joined with a simple ring. Amethysts at this time were considered rare and prized by the royals and the aristocracy.

The amethysts are cut flat, faceted at the edges and foil backed. They are all set in crimped gold settings, all made by hand. The foil reflects the light and enhances the color of the stones. The amethysts have a rich hue and variation of color so beautiful and distinctive of foiled stones. The necklace is light, and the gold work superb. All the stones are original, perfectly graduated and in excellent condition. It measures 15.5 inches long and retains a secure original clasp. The center stone measures 1 cm down x 1.4 cm across. This is timeless, elegant and rare.
