| This beautiful Scottish agate bracelet is circa 1860. My passion for Scottish jewelry is typified by this item. Here is a bracelet that is over 150 years old having a design with a 2007 sensibility. Individually hand cut stones were shaped and placed harmoniously to join with the colors of each section. There are five sections, with each having four stones that fit together like a fine puzzle. The photos of the reverse show the agates placed on slate and the central element has the stones placed on granite. Each of these sections are capped with sterling and are engraved. The square sections are placed on slate as well and are finished with a decorative silver Celtic grid. The bracelet measures 7 3/4 inches x 1 1/4 inches at the widest point of the central section. The padlock measures 3/4 inches wide x 1 3/8 inches. If additional length is needed , it is easy to add a few small silver links at the end that joins the padlock. The bracelet terminates with a padlock that by itself is a fine piece of jewelry. The padlock opens and closes to secure the bracelet and has four agates cut and placed together. The reverse has a locket with a braided lock of hair beneath a crystal. Bracelets with this superior level of lapidary work are rare to find, especially in fine condition. This is a Scottish collectors bracelet, circa 1860. | |||||||||||
