These earrings are from the Georgian period, circa 1800. They are garnets, cut en cabachon and hand set in crimped silver collets. Each garnet is foiled back to reflect light as the stones are closed in the back. Side by side, the garnets create a tailored, unique appearance. Each earring terminates with a small dangling garnet, also a typical design of the period. They are secured back to front and are set in vermeil, gold wash over silver. The color is a pale rose gold. Almost no metal is shown as the garnets take center stage. They measure 1 1/2 inches long from the top of the wire x 1/4 inch wide. The condition is very good with slight wear to the gilding as expected. The earrings are French with hallmarks on each wire. French elegance, circa 1780. |
