Antique French Diamond Rooster Pin
This whimsical diamond rooster brooch is French, circa 1900. It is designed as a cockeral cleverly rendered with old European diamonds set in silver topped gold. The cockeral, or "le coq gaulois" has long been the symbol of France's fighting spirit and this is a very fine example. The 33 diamonds are beautiful, weighing approximately 1.15 cts. FG color and VS clarity. The diamonds have great color and sparkle, as the stones are not closed in the back and are well cut. The eye is a faceted ruby. The reverse has all the original mounts, with French guarantee stamps for gold and silver on the pinstem. It measures 1 inch long X 1 inch across. Worn alone or with other small animal brooches, it is quite beautiful and in excellent condition. French, circa 1900
