These antique gold banded agate earrings are English, circa 1880. They are rendered in 15k gold and have a dimensional figural bird sitting on top of a ball of banded agate. The bird is finely executed in repousse, a technique of creating a pattern or design from the back of the gold. The earrings are light on the ears and gracefully articulate. The birds face each other as the should, framing the face. They measure 1 1/2 inches from the top of the wire X approx. 1/2 inches across. The condition is excellent. The agate beads are approximately 11mm and are well matched. There is a tiny chip in the back of one banded agate bead, not seen from the front and invisible on the ear. The patina is rich and beautiful, and the earrings are a wonderful addition to any antique jewelry collection. English, circa 1880. |
