| The nineteenth century English silversmiths had distinctive artistry. The jewelry was hand engraved, often with flowers and tiny silver "bullets" decorated the perimeter. In this example, the engraving is refined and the silver work beautiful. It is wonderful finding an original set from this period, especially in excellent condition. The reverse of the brooch and earrings has tiny little holes which allowed the air to escape during the manufacturing process. The top of each earring follows the design motif of the sides of the brooch, an interesting and pretty detail. The brooch has the original and secure C-clasp, T-bar and pinstem. The earrings have new ear wires and measure 1 3/8 inches from the top of the wire x 3/4 inches across. The brooch measures 1 1/2 inches across x 1 1/4 inches down. This is a fine representation of Victorian silver jewelry, circa 1860. | |||||||
