The jewelry made during the years of 1714 to 1830 is referred to as Georgian, since it spanned the reigns of the English King George 1-1V. The jewelry was made by skilled hands, and even imitation stones,or paste, was of equal craftsmanship to those created with real stones. These earrings were designed as flower heads, and rendered in faceted stones that were foil backed and set in hand crimped settings. The stones are all original, and reflect light with a beauty that only early, foiled stones can produce. They are mellow with hints of champagne tones as the light passes in different direction. The earrings have been converted from Georgian buttons or cuff buttons with an addition of a gold wire. The backs are gold topped silver, or vermeil a process done on early silver jewelry to protect the wearer from tarnish. The earrings measure slightly shy of 6/8 inches across x 7/8 down from the top of the wire. They are the perfect size for day or evening and absolutely lovely. English, circa 1800. |
