These earrings are Georgian, circa 1800. They are more unusual, having a desirable cushion shaped stone that is foil backed and set in fine hand crimped silver collets. The reverse has a softly curved back and newer gold ear wires. The stones are black dot, indicating a higher quality of paste that used the dot to simulate the culate of a diamond. The earrings were most likely Georgian cuff buttons and later converted as many were, to be used as earrings. They measure almost 3/4 long from the top of the wire x 1/2 inches across. The condition is superb and the shape very lovely. England, circa 1800 |
