These antique French garnet earrings are circa 1890. They are Perpignon garnets from the region in France that they are made. Unlike Bohemian garnets so popular at this same period, these have a beautiful mellow color. The cut too, is distinctive as the facets are cut across the entire curving surface, not the typical raised rose cut. The garnets form a flower cluster and each petal has a slightly different hue, created by foil placed beneath the stone. Each garnet is set in cut down gold collets. The gold and lapidary work are both superb. The earrings are set in 18k and have a French guarantee stamp on the lever back. They are small in scale, measuring 3/4 inches from the top of the lever back x 5/8 across. The size is perfect for day or evening. They are completely original and in excellent condition.
