This elegant gold, rock crystal heart locket is English, circa 1880. The large and bulbous rock crystals are beautifully cut by a lapidary and set in substantial gold bezels. The heart, which articulates, has a gold bow surmount set with natural pearls. It is also a locket that could house a photo or a lock of hair, as the back has a removable bezel. I personally prefer it worn as seen. The rock crystal is substantial and the cabachon cut reflects light and seems to illuminate with every movement. It measures 2 inches long with the bale x 1 1/4 inches across the bow. The depth of the heart is 3/8 inches. The condition is excellent. The 15k gold patina is original, rich and beautiful. The reverse shows a tiny bottom edge chip to the back locket crystal not visible from the front. It can be worn on this ultra suede cord, on a gold chain or string of pearls.
