| Extraordinary Georgian pendant with fine cannetille work, circa 1820. This 18k gold pendant has every attribute that collectors of early period jewelry desire. The gold work, which is as fine as embroidery, enhances the stones and serves to add color to the muted chrysolites. The rare chrysolites are beautiful, well matched, faceted and set in cut down collets. The use of foil beneath the stones was used to add light, as the stones during this period were closed in the back. This foiling gives the stones a distinctive beauty. The four cardinal points are set closed back, and the alternate points are set 'a jour' as is the stone in the matching bail. The white pearls are all natural and they too are finely set in cut down collets. The condition is excellent, actually remarkable, and the patina rich and original. The pendant measures 1 3/4 inches with the bail x slightly over 1 1/8 inches across. It is beautiful worn on a chain, cord, ribbon or with pearls. It is rare and beautiful, English, circa 1820. | |||||||
