A very unusual chinese porcelain baluster vase decorated in famille rose in the "Batavian" style but on a mirror black ground. I am not sure whether this is an experimental piece as the black glaze is very difficult to control and has migrated in the firing. I think this ground is rare as it is the only one I have ever seen.Dating from the C18th., it stands 9 14inches (23.5 cms) high. As mentioned, the black glaze has run and fled from the surface in some areas (original). There is fritting to the footrim, and a shallow flake and short hairline to the rim.

A very fine pair of japanese cloisonne vases each decorated with four panels of birds and flowers. They can be displayed with 4 different matching surfaces to the front.Dating from the late C19th., they stand 6 inches (15.3 cms) high. One has a significant bruise to the shoulder with stress lines migrating from it and the other has a scratch which can be seen under oblique light and a miniscule nick to one corner.
