A pair of excellent quality buckles made from leather and bright cut steel . The spring loaded fittings open by pressing a small button on the back and the fitting itself is double hinged. They are marked L and R (left and right) and are mirror images of each other.Dating from the early C19th. (possibly earlier) they measure 2 3/8inches across.
They are in excellent condition with only very minor evidence of corrosion on the front and slightly worse to the back (particularly the backplate).
The original box is a little distressed and has places for 2 other fittings, possibly garter or knee buckles.
