A chinese box decorated with coloured enamels on a bronze base (Canton enamel). The lid has the unusual and desirable subject of two quail amongst flowers.Dating from the first quarter of the C19th., it measures 4 1/4inces (10.7cms) long, 2inches (5cms) wide and 1 3/8inches (3.5cms) deep. There are minor enamel losses to two corners of the lid. It is in otherwise good condition. (N.B.:-There are white lines that look like faults in the enamel. Early canton enamel colours were painted over a white enamel base colour and contract sightly when fired. These marks are normal. Indeed, if you see early Canton enamel without such marks, treat it with scepticism.)
