A japanese fan or face screen handle / holder made from a strongly grained wood and decorated in gold lacquer and shibayama (Inlaid stones and mother of pearl). Dating from the mid C19th., it measures 6 inches long.It would originally held a fixed, single fan leaf which would fit in the slot shown in photo. There is some wear to the gold lacquer but it is in otherwise good condition.
