A chinese porcelain tea tray decorated in famille rose enamels with a phoenix and peony in the Nonya style. For similar example see Ho Wing Meng's Straits Chinese Porcelain fig.14.Dating from the 2nd half of the C19th., it measures 10 x 8 1/2inches (25.3 x 21.7 cm). The rim gilding has worn of and there is minor surface wear to the enamels. FURTHER NOTES:- This tray was bought as one of a pair. The other (chipped) one was sold on eBay.
When I bought these trays, this one had been used as a plant stand and had some minor calcium deposits to the inside. I removed these with vinegar solution and a very mild abrasive causing no wear to the enamels.
There are some minor calcium particles I may have missed, but these are easily remedied with a finger nail or a small blade when spotted. There are a very few air bubbles to the rim. 4 have burst (for worst, see photo 10).The glaze has fled on a couple more and a very few others are intact. All have to be searched closely for.
Apart from the worn rim gilding and some minor surface wear as mentioned above, this dish is in very good condition

A good chinese hardwood stand very well carved and turned from a single piece of dark dense hardwood. There is a stamped "CHINA" mark to the base suggesting it is from the late C19th/ early C20th. It measures 6 3/4inches (17.2 cm) max across and is made for an object with a 5 1/4inch (13.4 cm) max foot rim (All measurements are across the grain to allow for age shrinkage). There is one small shrinkage split to the base but no losses.(See photo 12)
